The Land Rover Discovery Sport SUV achieved an incredible feat in Switzerland on the 16th of June 2016, towing three luxury train carriages with a combined weight of more than 100 tonnes along a railway track. This remarkable demonstration of towing capability saw the vehicle pulling what is effectively the same weight as a Boeing-757 airplane.
This Jaguar Land Rover packs a powerful 177.5 bhp Ingenium engine under the hood, which provides a torque of 430 Nm. The exercise was filmed 85 ft above River Rhine in Switzerland, on the Hemishofen Bridge, with a car which is known specifically for its towing prowess. The only modification made to the SUV was the fitment of small stabilizer wheels. They’re not nearly as large or dramatic as the steel wheels fitted to Smart’s Forrail, but were enough to make sure the car tracked straight and true on its journey.
